Who is this new phenomenal player on the paddle tennis ball scene?  Angel Calle is his name and wall sports are his games!!!  Angel went up against the #1 seeded player, Traian Pircalabu and won, to be followed by James Sands, Patrick Cassidy, Keith Enriquez, and finally Robert Sostre but managed overcome all his opponents becoming the 1st CUBAN PADDLE TENNIS BALL CHAMPION.  As a child, he played some tennis in school and secured two bronze medals; he then dabbled in racquetball competing in the Youth Nationals and was crowned winner.  For the next 13 years, he competed all over the world and with Army and Navy soldiers in various tournaments and remarkably lost only two.  He escaped Cuba in a small raft and traveled to the United States, where he was introduced to the sport of Squash and in no time at all winning tournaments.  Angel finally moved to Florida and worked as a Tow Truck Driver, as he was suffering physical difficulties with his feet and did not play for the next six years.  In 2006, Angel’s luck really took a turn for the worse when he suffered a heart attack weighing in at 261 pounds.  His childhood friend, Juan Carlos contacted him to wish him well during his hospitalization.  Soon thereafter, Angel visited Juan and they played Paddle tennis ball, initially Juan would beat up on Angel, but each week Angel came back for more.  Eventually, Angel mastered the sport and Juan never won again!!!

Another great victory for Angel is having recently beat New York’s best handball athlete in game of three wall, more specifically Angel’s feet to Rookie’s hands…

Angel’s biggest fan is Cheepe, who you will always see cheering for his long time buddy and friend on the sidelines!!!
